Weeks 13 & 14

The last two weeks have been busy, with not much done in the sketchbook. I have managed to at least add a squiggle on days I know I just won’t have time to sit down and do anything productive.

It’s debatable if bombing down ski runs and doing some light hiking along ice-covered rocks very near a giant inland sea counts as relaxing, but that’s what I did to get away from some of my anxieties about the show. Maybe that’s a sign that I’ve lived in Minnesota long enough for me to not be bothered that the winters last well into April.

With the show up on the walls, I think the hardest part is done. Last minute artist-wrangling and only 2 no-shows was only a minor stress compared to the organizing and build-up. We got a little over 30 pieces of art and almost 30 artists. Now I just have to show up on Friday and Saturday and hope people spend some money. I’ve heard from other artists that have already vended this year that it’s been difficult to sell due to everything going on this year.

It should be noted that millions of Americans protested across the country while I was checking artists in on Saturday the 5th. Thousands showed up at the Minnesota state capital. I’m not seeing the media treat it with the magnitude it deserves, but that’s been the theme this whole year. You can feel it in the art that’s up in the show, some more subtle than others.
