Weeks 5 & 6
I’ve taken to the old habit of looking through museum digital collections of old woodcuts. It’s given me a lot of ideas for future prints, but I’ve had to squirrel those away in my ever growing “to do” list. I’ve been piling on the projects to distract myself from winter and the general dumpster fire that is the political climate in the US.
I know I’m not feeling great when I can’t stop doing stuff. “At least I’m being productive” has it’s pros and cons. Pro: Cut out paper for 2 more books, made a leather recipe book, practiced using leather stamps and carving, finished knitting a pair of mittens and started a cowl (and am still knitting a pullover), picked at my latest woodblock, sketched out a new woodblock, went rock climbing, took a lyra class, and somehow kept up with this project. Cons : house is a mess and I am not dealing with my feelings.
If I manage to do a second woodcut for the upcoming Tarot show, I picked the 8 of coins. It’s one of my least favorites (I wanted a challenge), as it speaks to me about monotony and working too much. No feelings, just keep plugging away. An unconscious, appropriate choice for this year so far.
